Lewis Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832–1898), was an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon, and photographer. He is best known for his classic children's novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass (1871). Carroll was also a scholar and teacher at Oxford University.
